But, finally, if u r not too interested in history, u would want to skip this. There are a lot of articles and books available covering Veer Savarkar. Or that Savarkar's book on 1857 was considered inspirational by people all across the political spectrum and banned by the British. Also, found out that the Hindu Mahasabha was instrumental in easing (somewhat) the plight of Hindus in Hyderabad pre-independence. Savarkar's Hindutva reminds me of a term i read recently 'atheist Jew' or 'atheist Zionists' especially bcoz Savarkar was an atheist and strongly against all dogma unlike the religious right that claims him today. Liberalism shouldnt be a noose by which others hang you. If Gandhi and Nehru couldnt do it, no-one can. That reminds me, how do u counter religious fundamentalism of those like Jinnah & co ? Gandhi's appeasement/approach clearly lost and I dont think accomodation works. But, then this was the only biography even worth picking-up probably because the name has become such a taboo unlike Jinnah who enjoys a considerable following in India and abroad. There are also too many unnecessary descriptions of his movements or speeches which r beyond getting tiresome. Also, the major events related of India, say Civil Disobedience, Quit India are altogether ignored or discussed only as Savarkar's reactions. The author indulges in hero-worship and as in old Bollywood, the hero is 'Rin ki safedi' white and no criticism whatsoever.

2.5/5 Firstly, this is an old-fashioned biography by the 'Padma Bhushan' awardee biographer.
